A wonderful mom

The first thing we think about when someone dies is what we did not tell them, what we did not do for them, what we forgot to share. And often times this hurts so much we tend to forget what their life did mean to us. People leave leaving behind stories, memories, others legacies.

When my partner’s grandmother died, I didn’t have the proper time to mourn as my mother got into the hospital shortly after. But listening to the eulogy her children wrote, it was clear she did her part in this life. And even if I did not know her all that well, I felt like I did through her offspring. Therefor I wrote a short poem dedicated to her.

You must’ve been a wonderful mom, since you taught them how to care.

You must’ve been a wonderful mom, since you taught them how to share.

You must’ve been a wonderful mom, cause you taught them how to love.

You must’ve been a wonderful mom, cause that’s all they could talk of.

The love you had and the lessons you taught must’ve been extraordinary.

You seemed very strict, but now I’m sure that what you meant was on the contrary.

To have met you was an honor for me, and I’m sure for many more.

Being rained down with love and kindness from your family was more than I could ever ask for.

Now you’re gone and never coming back.

The house is filled with memories and flashbacks.

And I know, we can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.

And we can’t have happiness without a little pain.
