It’s January 2019!
Yes, that means December 2018 is over. I’m sure for the most of us it was one fun month with attending all the parties, year end closings, get togethers with every possible group of friends you may have, all the food that came with it. I even started wondering … Why is it, that we HAVE TO meet up before the year ends to share a meal, hug and part ways? Why? I mean, for me, the social exhaustion was not worth all the traffic jams! But I’m still happy I got to see some of you before I decided to turtle in for the rest of the year.
As I turtled in, I was still social, as social media met me halfway and it was full of new year’s intentions. I don’t know why people be calling it new year’s intention tho, cause when I was still joining in, I should’ve called it “first two weeks of January intention”. Cause well, I must’ve been doing something wrong as the intentions never lasted. And yes, it was the part “new year” I gave more meaning than the “intentions” itself.
Now that I’ve come to think of it, we don’t need a new year to set an intention, cause really, I bet these won’t last. Just set an intention at any time of the year, whenever you feel like you have to set one. No need to wait for a new year coming up to reflect. Reflect every month, every week, every day, even so reflect every mindful still moment. Every mindful moment, be present, sit still and reflect. What is it you are doing now? How does it make you feel? Do you need to continue, do you need to stop or do you need to change?
Intention setting actually needs a lot of attention. You can’t just set an intention and expect it to be met at the end of the year. An intention needs to have reason and a plan set out, broken down into little pieces of sub-intentions. It needs small goals, milestones along the way. To accomplish these, it needs hard work. To reward it, it needs gratitude. So be mindful about setting intentions as to why you are doing it and how you are going to do it. Along the way, reflect on them, practice gratitude and adjust accordingly.
And to all, I don’t only wish you a happy new year, I wish you the most wonderful life!
