On the Surface

How often do we come across people who show us a distorted picture of themselves? And aren’t we as human beings not easily quick to judge? What if we try to see pass the surface and try to discover the person that is on the inside?

So, the story goes like this. I made a deal with a friend of mine that in a month time I would write a short story and she would do something that would help her in her own way. I have a lot of stories in my head, but I could not get them out of my mind and on a piece of paper, or in this case type it in . Today I was inspired. As some of you may know, I am a big fan of Disney movies. Ever since I was child. But now I am a much bigger fan. Because the last couple of years I see the empowerment of women in these Disney movies. The message is usually visual if we look pass the surface, if we read between the lines of the scripts.

So today I went to see the new Disney movie Moana. It began with a short animation, totally unrelated to the original story. But that animation had a very clear message, that we are our own worst enemies. The fear inside our head is what keeps us from our dream, from greatness.

But the original message from Moana is what inspired me the most. At first I laughed at the scenes, the lines. Those were very funny. But in the end I saw something that I think that many will miss. Or maybe not. I hope not.

My friend told me that we all get the message that speaks to us that we need to hear, because it affects us personally.

What I saw was a powerful woman, Mother Earth, who gave life, who made life possible for mankind but whose heart was stolen by a man. A man who had a clear path way to her heart, no obstacles because she didn’t saw the threat. With her heart being taken, she transformed into this dangerous being, on the surface. But another woman was brave enough to see pass that surface and remind her who she was. Another woman gave her heart back. Another sister reminded her how much she is needed and how much she can influence her environment. The magic and the power of women is what is showed in this movie. The power that lies in our mind, our hand and between our legs, because we create life.  We often underestimate ourselves. We underestimate how much we can empower another woman.

Another thing that got my attention was the apology of the man. In real life, we see that we often don’t get an apology from the one that rips our heart away. We often have to go on because the apology never comes. That is why we need our sisters, we need to remind each other that we are still powerful with or without an apology. But I like to advice men out there that if they can admit their wrong doing, a woman can lift them up even more higher than they were.

To all the women out there, let us unite as one. Let us lift each other up and not break each other down. Let us not look at each other with envy, because just by being a woman means that we have magic inside of us.
